Fall 2022.
In September-November 2022 I took a Printmaking elective and explored several mediums that were new to me. This page highlights a few of my favorite projects and processes that resulted from that work. Linocut, Lithograph, and Etching.
LinOcut
"Dollhouse"
13-print series.
My inspiration for this piece was Edwardian-era prints from around 1900-1910. These prints often showed women as the submissive character in the scene and I thought it would be interesting to draw one of these women in a room that makes her look very dominant and plainly just tall.

Three printing plates were used in the creation of these prints. One for the lightest tones in the floor, windows, and figure. Another for the mid-tones in the majority of the background, and one for the black lines.

I experimented with many different color palettes but liked the red/yellow and turquoise/beige combinations the best of the lot.
LithOgraph
"Self-Portrait with Rectangles"
12 print series.
I was inspired by 1930s-50s fashion advertising for this project. I wanted to work with bold colors and simple shapes for this process since I was very unfamiliar with it. I used an image of myself for the figure simply to avoid copyright issues.

When I was printing this series I was not expecting the very visible texture that would be seen on the paper. I didn't account for that in the design so I had to try different color palettes as I went.
